Juan Herreros and Auxi Gálvez have chosen the Edificio España (España Building), an empty building recently refurbished to test their research program: Containers Re-visited. Participants have been asked to search for new techniques, models and methods to think and design contemporary collective housing in these “areas of opportunity” that our cities offer. Victor Moreno, Spanish filmmaker, presented his graphic research about the demolition of the building. He will join the class to film the working process of the workshop and include the outcoming projects as part of his documentary.

Luis Fernandez Galiano opened the first session lecturing about the state of the art and the relevance of density and collectivity today.

The opening ceremony was held at the university’s boardroom, where Luis Maldonado, ETSAM Dean (left) and Chema Lapuerta, MCH Director (right)  gave a warm welcome to MCH 2012 participants.

Afterwards, MCH09 Esperanza Campaña and Gustavo Rojas spoke about their experience before, during and after the masters and MCH06 Emilio Ontiveros finished displaying an “operative housing bilbiography” that he developed.

Andres Cánovas opened the Housing Projects seminar with a 5- hour lecture that explained the goals of this specialty and went through his work establishing connections with other case studies.

The opening ceremony of MCH 2012 will take place next Monday January 9.

Guillermo Gosalbo, Pepe López Parra and Jose Manuel Calvo have won the first place in Europan 2011 in the town of Getaria (Basque Country, Spain).
