Burgos & Garrido have started their workshop with a bike tour along the M-Rio park. Urban mobility and more specifically biking routes will be their scope of research for this week.

Wiel Arets and assistant Lena Wimmer discussed the notion of  ’Utopia’ while investigating the future of Japan.  The workshop focused on Tokyo as a ‘battle-ground’ and its ability to function as an example for a new Utopian society.

The roundtable structure was established as the enclave.

Specialty director, Javier G. Germán has matched architects and engineers/consultants to discuss about energy and sustainability. In the last session, architect Iñaki Ábalos and CENER Consultant Florencio Manteca discussed about thermodynamic design.

Peter Ebner, in collaboration with Emilio Ontiveros has dealt with housing typology focusing the research in Latin America.

One-on-one reviews were combined with group discussions to filter the case studies.

Jesús Leal and Fernando Altozano showed MCH 2012 participants the urban enclaves of Madrid to better understand its structure, growth and social aspects. 

The group stands in the huge courtyard within El Ruedo (F.J. Saenz de Oiza), which houses a community of gypsies relocated from Pozo del Huevo.

Bernardo Angelini and David Casino (Zigzag Arquitectura), Ignacio Borrego (Dosmasuno) and María Hurtado de Mendoza (Entresitio) explained how they deal with formal processes in their projects.These Housing Projects sessions focus in the approach of certain architects in regard to the upcoming  workshop topic. Wiel Arets will be presenting Tokyo Utopia shortly.

The projects generated for “Containers Re-Visited” changed substantially since the mid-review and offered a great variety of solutions for the discussion panel, which had Alessandra Kosberg (JVA Architects) as guest architect.

The Energy & Sustainability Specilty started with a revealing speech by director Javier García Germán and was followed by a LEED certification practical seminar taught by official instructor Daniel Martín.

Participants had to work on design and implementation strategies and also had to be critical about the certification process.

Edouard Francois lit up the fire for the mid-review and triggered the projects.

Juan Herreros and Auxi Gálvez have chosen the Edificio España (España Building), an empty building recently refurbished to test their research program: Containers Re-visited. Participants have been asked to search for new techniques, models and methods to think and design contemporary collective housing in these “areas of opportunity” that our cities offer. Victor Moreno, Spanish filmmaker, presented his graphic research about the demolition of the building. He will join the class to film the working process of the workshop and include the outcoming projects as part of his documentary.
